Looking around without an account sets no Job Elf cookies at all. That includes the homepage, candidate search and profiles, job listings, and pages like this one.

When you sign in or sign up

These cookies are set the first time you open a page that needs them, like Sign In, Sign Up or View Résumé. After that, the rest of the site uses them too, so you stay signed in. They're only ever sent to Job Elf, their contents are encrypted, and they're never used for advertising.

  Keeps you signed in as you move between pages, and remembers where you were, for example partway through signing up. It holds a random ID; the details stay on our servers.

• XSRF-TOKEN

  Protects your forms, so another website can't submit them in your name.

• remember_web_…

  Keeps you signed in on this browser. Set only when you tick "Keep me signed in", or when you continue with Google or Facebook.

  Lasts: 400 days, or until you sign out

Other browser storage

Job Elf's pages don't keep anything in your browser's local storage, with two exceptions:

• Intro video uploads. When a candidate uploads an intro, the uploader saves a small note so an interrupted upload can pick up where it left off. The note holds the upload's web address and the file's name, size and type, not the video. It's deleted as soon as the upload finishes; if an upload never finishes, it stays until you clear your browser's data for Job Elf.
• The admin area. For Job Elf staff only, it remembers display settings like dark mode and which menu sections are open.

Recording an intro uses your camera and microphone only after you choose Record Video and your browser asks for permission. The recording stays in your browser until you choose Use Video.

The search box may start with your area ("Near Tampa, FL"), worked out from the rough location your internet connection suggests, the way any website can. Your device's precise location is used only after you choose Use my location and your browser asks for permission; we turn it into the nearest city and keep neither the position nor the city. You can change or clear the place at any time, and nothing about it is stored in your browser.

How we measure use

We count things like searches, intro plays and profile views, to learn what's working. These events go to Job Elf's own database. We don't use outside analytics, advertising or social media trackers, and the events don't use cookies.

• If you're browsing with no cookies, an event records only what happened and when, like which profile was opened. It isn't linked to you.
• Once you have a session (you're signed in, or partway through signing up), events also carry a scrambled (hashed) form of the session's ID, and your account if you're signed in.
• To count each profile view only once a day, we keep a one-way hash made from your IP address (or your account, if you're signed in) and your browser type. We keep the hash, not the IP address.

Like any website, our servers see your IP address and browser type with each request. We use them to keep the site secure, for example to limit how fast one visitor can search.

Services we rely on

• Our pages come straight from our own server; no content delivery network sits in front of Job Elf today. If we add one, we'll update this page, because a network like that can set a security cookie of its own.
• Bunny.net hosts intro videos, and your browser loads them from Bunny's network. We play them in the browser's own video player, not an embedded outside one.
• Google and Facebook are only involved if you choose to continue with them. You sign in on their site, and their own cookie policies apply there.

Candidate photos come from our own storage, and our fonts and scripts load from Job Elf itself.

Your choices

You can delete Job Elf's cookies and stored data in your browser's settings at any time. You'll be signed out, and nothing else changes. If you block cookies, you can still browse, search candidates and read job postings, but you won't be able to sign in.
